Wegovy tablets in the UK

Wegovy tablets deliver semaglutide without a needle. The trade is a strict morning routine: empty stomach, a sip of water, then 30 minutes with no food or drink.

The morning routine

Semaglutide is poorly absorbed through the gut, and food or a full glass of water blocks most of the dose. So the rules are firm. Swallow the tablet whole on waking. Use a sip of plain water. Leave 30 minutes before breakfast, coffee or other tablets.

Fitting the tablet into a morning

Keep the blister pack by your bed with a small glass. Take the tablet when the alarm goes. Shower and dress during the 30 minutes. Breakfast and coffee follow.

Strengths

Four strengths are sold in the UK: 1.5mg, 4mg, 9mg and 25mg. You climb in order under a prescriber's direction. 25mg is the dose tested in the main trial.

Results

OASIS 4 ran for 64 weeks. Adults on the 25mg tablet lost 13.6% of body weight on average. The placebo group lost 2.2%.

Price

The cheapest first orders today are £53 for 1.5mg, £72 for 4mg, £83 for 9mg, £141 for 25mg. Wegovy tablets price by pharmacy.

Availability

UK pharmacies supply the tablets privately after an online consultation. The tablets are not available on the NHS at present.

Other morning medicines

Anything else you swallow in the morning waits until the 30 minutes are up. If you take levothyroxine, ask the prescriber how to schedule the two.

Forgotten tablets

Leave the missed one. Take the next tablet tomorrow morning as normal.

Side effects

Expect the same family of effects as the pen: nausea, loose stools, constipation, vomiting. Semaglutide side effects.

Red flag. Strong, lasting stomach pain, sometimes reaching through to your back, needs same day medical attention. The MHRA names this as the main warning sign of pancreatitis. Tell the MHRA about any suspected reaction on the Yellow Card site.

Skip the dose and carry on the next morning. Never take two.

Can I get Wegovy tablets from my GP?

Not on the NHS at present.
